Plain answers. If something here raises a new question, the first call is free, so bring it there.
What does “Koinos” mean?
It’s Greek for common, or shared. The name reflects the idea at the center of the firm: financial guidance shouldn’t be reserved for people who’ve already arrived somewhere. It’s meant to be available while you’re still building, not after.
What does fee-only mean?
It means Koinos is paid only by you, the client. No commissions, no referral fees, no payments from fund companies or product providers of any kind. What you pay is exactly what’s on the fee schedule. Nothing else changes hands.
This matters because the alternative, commission-based or fee-based advising, means an advisor can be paid more for recommending certain products. Fee-only removes that conflict entirely.
What does fiduciary mean?
A fiduciary is legally required to act in your best interests, always, not just when it’s convenient.
Mathew Eardley is a fiduciary as a registered investment advisor. That means every recommendation is made because it’s right for your situation, not because it generates more revenue for the firm. If the right answer is “do nothing,” that’s the answer you’ll get.
How is Koinos different from a big wealth management firm?
Most large wealth management firms require $500,000 or more in assets to become a client. They’re built for people who have already built wealth.
Koinos is built for people who are building it. No asset minimum. One advisor who knows every client personally. Transparent fees, plain communication, and no commissions, ever.
How is Koinos different from a robo-advisor?
Robo-advisors manage investments algorithmically at low cost. That works for simple investment accounts. It’s not financial planning.
Koinos provides full financial planning: taxes, insurance, debt, estate, equity compensation, and investment management together, built around your specific situation rather than a template, with a person behind it instead of a dashboard.
Do I need a certain amount of money to get started?
No. Koinos has no asset minimum.
The decisions that shape a household’s financial direction mostly get made in the years before there’s a large portfolio to manage, and they’re the ones that are hardest to revisit. Those are the decisions that deserve the most care.
What is the first call like?
It’s thirty minutes and free. You tell Mathew what’s going on; he tells you honestly whether he can help. There’s nothing to prepare beforehand and no commitment required afterward.
If Koinos isn’t the right fit, for any reason, Mathew will say so and point you somewhere better. It’s a genuine offer, made without a sales pitch attached.
What happens after the first call?
If it’s a fit, you’ll receive a written proposal with a fixed fee and a defined scope. You approve it before any work begins. Nothing starts until you’ve agreed to exactly what you’re getting and what it costs.
Do I have to live in Boise?
No. Koinos is registered in Idaho and works with clients throughout the state and beyond where registration permits. Meetings happen by video call or phone; the work doesn’t require you to be in the same room.
How many clients does Koinos work with?
Koinos intentionally keeps the client list small. Every client reaches Mathew himself, without a form to fill out first or a junior associate in between. The size of the list is managed around that commitment.
How much does financial planning cost?
It depends on what you need. The full fee schedule is on the home page, but here’s the short version:
Ongoing planning is billed as a blended percentage of assets managed, starting at 1.50% on the first $250K and stepping down as assets grow, with a $1,000 annual minimum and no asset minimum to start.
A one-time plan starts from $2,500, flat fee, by complexity.
A single-question project starts from $1,000, flat fee, by scope.
Every engagement includes a written fee agreed before any work begins.
What exactly is a blended AUM fee?
AUM stands for assets under management. A blended fee means each tier’s rate applies only to the assets within that tier, not to everything you have.
For example, if you have $300,000 managed: the first $250,000 is charged at 1.50%, and the next $50,000 is charged at 1.25%. You never pay the higher rate on the full balance as you cross a threshold.
Are there any other fees I should know about?
No. What’s on the fee schedule is everything. Koinos earns no commissions and no referral fees from any source. What gets recommended never affects what you pay.
Client assets are custodied at Schwab, which charges no commissions on trades. The complete fee disclosure is in Form ADV Part 2A, on file with the Idaho Department of Finance.
Is Koinos regulated?
Yes. Koinos Financial, LLC is a registered investment advisor with the Idaho Department of Finance. CRD #342846. You can verify registration at adviserinfo.sec.gov.
Registration as an investment advisor does not imply a certain level of skill or training. That disclaimer is required by law and is included here honestly. What it does mean is that Koinos has met Idaho’s registration requirements and is subject to examination and oversight by the state.
What credentials does Mathew hold?
Mathew Eardley holds a Master of Science in Financial Planning from Whitworth University and passed the Series 65 examination (the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination) in April 2026, which is required for registration as an investment advisor representative in Idaho.
Where are client assets held?
Client assets are custodied at Schwab, an independent, SEC-regulated custodian. Koinos does not take custody of client assets: they are held in your name at Schwab, and you have direct access to view your accounts at any time.
This separation between advisor and custodian is a standard safeguard. Koinos has discretion to manage investments in your account, but the assets themselves are held independently.
Bring it to the first call. It’s thirty minutes, it’s free, and there’s nothing to prepare. If Koinos isn’t the right fit, Mathew will say so.
